Progressive Party of Maldives says Maldivians will not be intimidated by the same tactics used Maldivian Democratic Party in 2008.
Progressive Party of Maldives has said that Maldivians will not be intimidated by the same tactics Maldivian Democratic Party had used in 2008.
The statement was made the Member of Parliament of the Villimale’ constituency, Mr. Nihan Hussain Manik in a press conference held today in Sakeena Manzil. He said that creating confusion, fear and anger towards opposition candidates are a common trait of Maldivian Democratic Party. They do not have any concerns over the consequences this will bring to the people and infrastructure, as long as they have their way.
MDP has been creating fear amongst the general public by creating false rumors, this time against Maldives Police Service. While speaking at a press conference held in Sri Lanka, former President of Maldives and Leader of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed claimed that Maldives Police Service has distributed their uniforms to members of gangs to create chaos and violence with the President Election day looming just a day away. Personnel of the Police Force along with their families are victims of hatred and are under constant scrutiny as consequences of false rumors created against them.
MDP has also been trying to create mistrust towards the Elections Commission. In the latest scandal created by MDP, apparently the vote cast by voters on the ballot paper automatically goes in favor of candidate 01, H.E President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom of Maldives after a few minutes. Nihan stated that people are more aware and educated today, to understand these are baseless accusations. He further stated that not even 32% of Maldives, is in favor of MDP.
Both Maldives Police Service and Elections Commission have also condemned the allegations made by MDP against them.
Also speaking at the conference, Minister of Environment and Energy, Honorable Thoriq Ibrahim said that, MDP is finally revealing its true colors, since they have realized that possibility of them losing the elections are very high. The next trick up their sleeve as usual is to create unrest and fear, by spreading false rumors.
Time and again opposition party MDP has been known to throw false accusations against institutions who protect the nation such as Maldives Police Services and Maldives National Force. Maldives Progressive Party called for the nation not to let the bitter history repeat itself, and we should now move towards a peaceful, progressive future.
They stressed on the importance of double checking where people have to cast their votes. Voting for the Presidential election will commence at 0800hrs on September 23rd.

In the press conference held today in Sakeena Manzil, the team of Progressive Party of Maldives has called for more youth to take part in the mass gathering to be held tomorrow night titled “Emmen Ekkakah (All for One) “.
Speaking alongside the member of Villimale’, Mr. Nihan Hussain Manik, the youth at the conference said that, should the opposition coalition win the election, the whole country is at risk of putting its economic development in danger. The gathering is expected to create a new record high and around 20, 000 chairs will be set up in Maafannu (Veli Dhan’du) Stadium to accommodate the gathering.
